I can scarcely believe it. Who on earth could have predicted something like this?

    Frankly, I'm in shock.

Doubt we'll see him this year. He'll probably get 9-10 games in the season, score 3-4 goals and that's it. Yay.

I'm not too bothered. We got him for nothing and his wages certainly won't be bank breaking...plus the fact he's never kicked a ball for us to create any issues in terms of squad usage.

The way I see it with Carroll is, if he manages a game or two and effects a positive scoreline...maybe even scoring a goal then it's a gain. If he never steps foot on the pitch then we lose nothing football wise...only wage wise.

I didn't want him back in the first place but seeing as the club deemed him worthy of a contract, I'll back him as and when he puts some positive input into the club.

This is the most important aspect of it.

Look how Longstaff's inclusion in the squad mad e significant difference to our season last year.

The inlusion of a doubtfull Carroll could be depriving one of the promising youngsters at the club of a squad place keenly fought for.

No promising youngsters get deprived because up to the age of 21 but not 21 all youngsters are eligible to play for the first team on top of the 25 man squad.

    Andy Carroll

There is better news for Bruce on Carroll, who looks set to return in the not-too-distant future. "We are hoping that by the international break Andy will be near," Bruce said.

But with no reserve games before Liverpool, he may be lacking match fitness for the Anfield clash.
