Whatever the budget, other managers at Notts had worked under worse circumstances at this level and kept us up.

If we'd had a "Who's responsible for where we are now?" thread in May 2018 ahead of the Coventry games, I'd imagine very few people would have been mentioning any past chairman or manager, it would have simply been a question of who was more responsible for us turning the corner, Hardly or Nolan? In fact I think we did have such a thread. Nobody was going to give any credit to Trew for keeping the club going long enough for us to be in a position to challenge for promotion again or Sheridan etc. for bringing certain players that now had us in the top 7, it was all about the current season and the current staff. And yet now, the people that were around in the past are suddenly the primary influence on our course of direction again.

The bottom line is that we were in tier 4 because of Trew and his appointments, Trew bought the club in tier 4 because Scardino and friend had put us there. That is highly significant, but where we finish in the division from one season to the next after that is down to the people making the decisions and managing the players in the here and now.
