Thread: Var

    Var

I am not a fan VAR. I get the arguement that the correct decision is made more often but for me a more important consideration is 'does VAR make the game more enjoyable?'

All I have seen so far is what would have been 7 or 8 'good' goals being disallowed because of an elbow or similar being offside and ridiculous handball decisions. Whatever happened to 'clear and obvious,' What I haven't seen is VAR being used to stop defenders shirt pulling at corners. Now that would add to the enjoyment.

I totally agree! VAR is not doing the job that it was introduced for and that is to eliminate the obviously poor decisions. It's not there to decide that a player's big toe was 1mm offside.

Here’s my view on VAR and offside in particular.

I’d completely change the offside rule.

The present rule is completely weighted in favour of the defending side because of this ridiculous premise that the slightest hair of the attacker being beyond the defensive line counts as offside.

The forward has to have an allowance for his forward momentum FFS.......to make his nose, his hand or his d I c k offside is nonsense.

It shouldn’t matter if the attacker’s forward Momentum takes his upper body beyond the defender if his feet are level with the last defender.

    My solution.

    I’d make “daylight” the rule.

There would have to be complete separation between attacker and last defender for me......this is much easier to substantiate on screen.

When I ran the line in Sunday football is never give the opposing attacker offside unless there was at least a foot of separation between him and our last defender.

By doing this is cut down on margin of my possible error AND it gave the attacker the benefit of the doubt.

I would do away with the offside rule altogether and goalkeeper and just play last man back...far more exciting...
Offside is a silly rule....If you want to hatch on the line go for it...but you just have to be outside the box..
    Simple....
    Offside...stupid rule...

I’m quite pleased that we don’t have to put up with VAR , I watched Leicester v spurs on motd and thought how the joy was being drained out of scoring a goal , probably the reason most of us attend matches, two goals chalked off the spurs disallowed goal was very dubious.
On a brighter note , Kanes goal , scored after being fouled and he was on his way to the ground , if he meant to bury it like that it was pure genius.

Just stop VAR from officiating on offside decisions.

This would prevent defenders from getting forward. Teams would have to keep 5 on the 18 yard line of each box and hoof it. Pulis would be in favour.
Mick's daylight rule would be the way to go.

I agree that VAR is starting to really annoy me as it is just stopping goals which is surely what the game is about. By the way my understanding is hands and arms are not offside if they are beyond the second last defender but I apologise if I have mis-understood that.

However, why don’t attackers just stay their side of the second last defender and then time their run better past the defender as the pass is made. Simples!

The forward is facing the right way, should normally be as quick if not quicker than the defender and if on the same wavelength of the passer have a pretty good idea where the pass is going.

Oops sorry forgot someone has gone back to Newcastle so we ain’t going to be getting any goals with that tactic! Better stick with plan B get to the byline and pass the ball back into the area for an oncoming midfielder to score (or a defender).

Or it would improve your ability to pass properly...an art or skill that has gone out of the modern game.....most games are boring nowadays.....I know the last time I watched Premiership games....they were boring. A few are not...but most are...Scrap goalkeepers and offside....you could introduce a rule that allows scoring only from inside the little box...
By the way...what is that for?
