Grant Ward played a full match for Ipswich U23's on the 16th December. They beat Crystal Palace U23's 2-1.
He played as a trialist. Ward played right-back, Paul Lambert says Ipswich are simply honouring their duty to get him fit after being released in the summer.
Almost a year out, he got injured on Boxing Day last year against QPR.

Warney has just been on Radio DeeDah - no mention of Grant Ward. Warney said that there is "illness in the camp" and also Lindsay will not be available this weekend due to son's hospital treatment

Today's 'Tiser (20/12/19) back page headline - "Good chance of Ward deal - Boss Warne hoping arrival of old boy is only days away"
He hasn't played a first team game since injuring cruciate knee ligament on Boxing Day 2018. Warney says he likes the player because Ward "can cover a few positions" (?!?)

Also - RUFC planning a fee-free January regarding transfer targets - so only loans/free transfers/ out of contract signings likely.
Nowt about getting any defensive cover, although Warney admits that he has got "issues at the back"

Also mentions that the two trialists who played in midweek Reserves 2-0 victory "were young players and not potential first-team signings", which anybody who was at the game would have guessed anyway.

Grant Ward can play wide midfield / central midfield and right back.
He will more than likely go to a club offering the best deal.

Theoretically but he has to be fit to do any of them. Which is a massive doubt

Someone will take a gamble on him Grist.
Bottom end of Championship or top end League 1, on a short term deal to prove his fitness.
Big drop in salary if he’s contemplating signing for us.

He may have improved a lot, but I can only remember him being any good when playing as a wide midfielder/winger. What we really urgently need are some reliable , fit defenders who can defend, and a midfield general. No offence to Grant Ward, but they are not roles that he is suitable for, even if fit, from what I have seen of him
