    Southampton Match Day Thread

Weird to have a Saturday match again. Few and far between with the Europa League this year!

Starting XI: Patricio; Bennett, Coady (c), Boly; Traore, Moutinho, Neves, Dendoncker, Otto; Jimenez, Cutrone

Subs: Ruddy; Vallejo, Kilman; Doherty, Vinagre, MGW; Jota

Good to see Jota back in the match day squad. Imagine he’ll get some minutes off the bench. I don’t really like Traore at wingback - think we do better with Doherty there and Traore in the attack. But strategy could be for Traore to wear down the opponents flanks all day and then shift to the attack when Doherty subs in later in the match.

Not sure on Southampton’s formation, but here’s their XI: Gunn, Valery, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Yoshida, Bertrand, Romeu, Hobjerg (c), Ward-Prowse, Redmond, Ings

Subs: McCarthy, DAnso, Stephens, Armstrong, Boufal, Long, Adams

Reading through some of the tweets when Southampton announced their lineup, they really wanted Boufal in the starting lineup. Don’t know much about him, but might be someone to keep an eye on when he subs in.

Against Man City, Saiss went down with an injury and Bennett subbed on in the first half. Now Bennett gets hurt and Vallejo subs on for him.

Jimenez scores just before halftime. Cutrone flicks it toward goal and Jimenez is there to put it away

And now VAR disallows the goal due to Cutrone being offsides in the build up. Sounds like it was very close

Just saw a replay of the disallowed goal. I think it was too close to overturn because it’s not even clear he gained advantage from it.
