Which kind of suggests that he was not insured fully against the risk of getting trashed and getting an injury as a result

Which in turn is about what I suggested on the original Lawrence and Bennett thread exactly a month ago when I was told by he who knows everything - aka a delighted TTR - that I knew nothing and was ‘naive’ about contracts.

What’s that expression he likes to use...oh yeah...QED!

    Rubbish.

He broke club rules and as captain brought the club into disrepute. I don't blame Derby for that.
So if he was just injured, he could have sat on his arse for 18 months drawing full pay. At his age, his career was then over at least at this level.

If Derby are taking this route, they are obviously persuing the breach of contract route, as would most companies.
    No sympathy

Tricky...this is what you wrote about five weeks ago. You do seem to have changed your tune a little.

FFS RA, you really are limited into understanding circumstances and fairness have you?

    NO I HAVE NO SYMPATHY

However, read the statement from the club again.
Then apply that to the other two.
ALL OF THEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLOBBERED.

Since MM isn't doing that, then I have to say Keogh is being treated unfairly.
He got the sack and the 2 drink drivers didn't.

Derby County have released a statement confirming the sacking of Irish defender Richard Keogh on the basis of gross misconduct.

Keogh was a passenger in team mate Tom Lawrence’s car when it crashed into a lamppost following a team night out on September 24th and suffered a serious knee injury in the accident.

The defender is expected to miss 12-14 months due to the injury in addition to Euro 2020 should Ireland make the tournament finals next year.

    Keogh

His contract was set to expire next summer and according a report to The Guardian he had been told he could stay and see it out but the club then shocked Keogh by outlining that he would have to accept a massive pay-cut in order to remain at Derby.

The report also outlined that Keogh found the club’s stance to be unacceptable and they have since told him “that he is no longer in their employ,” with his lawyers and the PFA also getting involved.

The club confirmed the news of Keogh’s sacking via a statement which read: “Derby County Football Club has completed the disciplinary hearing regarding Richard Keogh in respect of his involvement in the events of Tuesday, September 24.

“As a result of that process, Mr Keogh has had his contract terminated with immediate effect for gross misconduct. He has the right of appeal within 14 days.

    Richard Keogh

“As we have said from the outset, the club will not tolerate any of its players or staff behaving in a manner which puts themselves, their colleagues, and members of the general public at risk of injury or worse, or which brings the club into disrepute.”

Now did they or did they not put general members of the public at risk?

So they acted correctly to sack Keogh but not the other two?

BTW, I detest drink drivers. It's selfish, irresponsible and akin to premeditated manslaughter in my eyes.
The law needs revising and jail terms

I see now Mel Morris has admitted that basically, they couldn't really sack Bennett and Lawrence, for a start there would be more than likely be expensive compensation for unpaid contracts and secondly, they could just go off and be taken on by another club, more than likely at higher wages.

Whereas Keogh hasn't got that option, is in the last year of his contract, unlikely to play for the club or indeed any other club (not at this evel anyway) and was therefore expendable!

IMO thats pure hypocrisy! Don't disagree with how Lawrence and Bennett were dealt with, but to treat Keogh differently because the club could, when they wouldn't have done that if he were an asset, is wrong and confirms my previous observations.

Not sure i can stomach such an attitude and Morris has gone down in my estimation.

With Yates’ ‘intervention’ making Clarke a possibly long term doubt and - more significantly - Keogh’s terminal unavailability, this now seems to be the problem most in need of addressing.
Clarke’s absence will present a problem against Preston but you have to feel for Cocu. He must have thought that with the acquisition of Clarke, the return to fitness of Davies and the presence of our, until recently, ‘Mr Reliable’ Keogh, that central defence was one of the more ‘sorted’ areas of the team.
We don’t have bottomless pockets by any means but it seems we’re going to have to spend on an area of the team that seemed least likely less than three months ago.
RA really big problem this I'm at a loss really who we put there Would imagine he will put Bielic there and that knackers the midfield up Preston a tough enough game without us having defensive problems They play the big lad Stockley up front and he's a handful very powerful and good in the air. Watched them on Sky in their last away match . Piss about at the back with them and we will regret it They counter attack very well often with five attacking They are really organised together team always options for the man on the ball ,everything we are not at the moment
