    Owls v Swans

Another hard one coming up. Sheffield Wednesday are a tough nut to crack at home, having lost just one in six matches, and conceding only three goals.
Our ex-manager and player Gary Monk has been in charge of the Owls since early September replacing Steve Bruce who ran away to Newcastle a few months previous. He didn’t have a pre-season to work with the players but he has certainly tightened up their defence, with them only losing 3 of the 10 matches since he’s been in charge, and conceding just 8 goals.

Gary Monk has managed a lot of clubs and gained plenty of experience on the way - Swansea, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Birmingham and now Sheffield Wednesday.
One of the danger men for the Owls will be the experienced Steven Fletcher, ex- Hibs, Burnley, Wolves, Sunderland, and now Sheffield Wed striker, always a thorn in our side and has a knack of scoring against us.

I would be happy with a draw for this one. Both teams strong defensively, both teams do not score many goals.
It’s a surprise that we are still unbeaten away and the longer it goes on the harder it is to maintain.
We have shown a strong defensive resilience away from home that was absent last season.
One of our key players is central defender Van der Hoorn, and it is of some concern that he is seemingly running down his contract, it expires at the end of this season, and as it stands he will be able to talk to other clubs in January about a move.
Why hasn’t he been offered a new contract or has he been offered one that is unacceptable, there is only silence from the club.
He seems happy enough here and committed to the cause. It would be a blow to our rebuilding plans if we lose him.

I thought we'd blown it at the end conceding two late goals after leading throughout, but right at the end Wilmot scored and rescued the point and our unbeaten away record. A missed opportunity as we were the better side.

Overall the draw was a fair result I thought. Both sides missed chances, they hit the post twice, we hit it once.
A range of emotions as we led by the one goal which is never enough. Ayew’s hooked shot in a goalmouth scramble on 32’ was enough to hold the lead until the 81’, when sub Foriesteri shot home after Lee’s original shot was only parried by Wood. More bad news as Fox gave Wednesday the lead in injury time in the 91’. We thought it was all over but Wilmot fired home at the far post from a corner in the 94’ to rescue a point. Shame we couldn’t have got that second goal when we were leading for those 49 minutes. I thought we were the better side too, with our slick passing but we couldn’t get that killer goal our play deserved.
The refereeing was poor again, a penalty call for clear handball, a second yellow not given to Lee when he blatantly fouled Celina, and the poor control of Wednesday players over exuberance as he let too many fouls go unpunished.
So the end result is that we are still undefeated going into the break in this crazy league where there is either a dearth or a glut of football matches.
With us not having a home match for a month then a Sat, Tue, Fri run of matches it is not fair on clubs like us who have players on International duty preceding those matches.
