UPDATE: Severe Weather
South Yorkshire Police have been working with our partners throughout the day to co-ordinate a multi-agency response to the severe weather conditions seen across South Yorkshire.
South Yorkshire Police’s Chief Superintendent Scott Green said:
“Throughout the year, we work closely with our partner agencies to create, test and exercise plans for incidents such as severe flooding. These plans have been put to good use today and continue to be in place throughout tonight and into tomorrow.
“At this time we are not aware of any injuries relating to the floods.
“A number of residents have chosen to leave their premises for their own safety and our partners including local authorities and the fire service, have supported them to do so.
“Earlier this evening, customers at Meadowhall remained inside the centre for a short time whilst police diverted traffic away from the area.
“We’d like to thank all of our partners, their staff and our officers who have been out in the rain for many hours now supporting local people. We’d also like to offer our thanks to those who have had their days disrupted, long journeys home and who face flooding in their homes for their patience. We will continue to have officers out on the streets throughout the night to offer reassurance.”

BARNSLEY:
We are aware of localised flooding in Darton, Lundwood and Low Valley. These areas are affected by the high levels of the River Dearne. Plans are in place. Follow @BarnsleyCouncil on Twitter for more information.
SHEFFIELD:
There is extensive flooding across Sheffield. There have been no compulsory residential evacuations at this time. There are reports of people behaving dangerously around floodwater, please be responsible and think about your safety. Follow @SheffCouncil and @sccstreetsahead on Twitter for further updates.
ROTHERHAM:
Key areas affected in Rotherham include Dinnington, Whiston and Parkgate. These places are affected by the high levels of the River Don. Plans are in place. Follow @RMBCPress on Twitter for further updates.

There are significant issues in Doncaster. The worst affected areas are Bentley, Toll Bar and Scawthorpe. The local authority are asking that people do not drive or leave their properties unless absolutely necessary. Plans are in place. Follow @MyDoncaster on Twitter for further updates.

Looks to be under at least 3 feet of water if not more.

According to Radio 4 this morning, one of the places affected is 'the village of Whiston, near Sheffield'.
I don't normally get excited about the Rotherham/Sheffield thing, but that one made me wince.
