How clean the streets look and how civilised the driving and people seem.

I don’t think the world has changed for the better.

Well, the bus driver must be the grandfather of some of the idiots today by that example!
Cars are much superior today, better MPG, more comfortable, and much more reliable. My ‘Moggie 1000 Traveller’ of that vintage was forever needing ‘points’ and sh*t it’s indicator bulbs at least once a month. No, give me newer vehicles every time!

The roads were designed for the volume of traffic back then. Today you'd need roads 3 times the size. Where I live in East anglia the A140 is a drudgery of following HGVs and OAPs trundling along at 40 mph. Long Stratton has been campaigning for a bypass for 50 years. The current proposal? A curved single carriageway.

I never get too sentimental about old times.......great to look back and reminisce...but times were very difficult for people back then.
Not so much today...but still many complain today about how hard life is...When you look back and see how people survived ages ago....it should be enough to make many stop complaining but they don't.....hardly know they are even alive today for complaining...

'The Old Days' when you could abandon your poorly designed, badly assembled, breakdown prone jalopy by the side of the road and catch a drafty bus home while admiring the driver's innate ability to cut everybody up from the scenic safety of the upper deck.
