Thread: Motherwell score four against poor St Johnstone

Cole should be punted...he’s never here for the long-term and is nowhere near good enough to merit time ahead of our own players.

Scott isn’t ready to play through the middle bit arguably safely in midtable is the time to get him there? I certain prefer him wide in the front three for now though.

True about Grimshaw but our most success right back in decades (in terms of league position) couldn’t defend to save his life...

Why single out Grimshaw? The same could be said about the rest of the defence - including yesterday. That being said why not move Grimshaw to help a pedestrian midfield actually move forward.

Our keepers are fine and Declan Gallagher is as good a central defender as we're ever likely to get. Hartley gets goals but isn't the best defender in the world. The jury is still out on Carroll and Mugabi. Grimmy is good going forward with his surging runs but his positional sense isn't great and he gives opponents too much leeway on the flank. Defensive midfield isn't great admittedly. Of ther teams above us all 3 have conceded less goals than us and of those below us in the table Killie and St Mirren have conceded less. Moving Grimshaw into midfield might not be a bad idea.

Because with the odd notable exception (the semi-final v Aberdeen for example) he's usually been anonymous in midfield and frequently rotten. He does much better at full back with all that space in front of him and while he's not great defensively, he is a much better right back than midfielder. Is he a position we could upgrade on? Probably. Is he top of the list to do so? Probably not.
