Bolton is a big club and will have a big academy, so I don’t understand why, if they needed to rest young players from the weekend games, they did not have 5 or so more academy players that could have played one game against Doncaster. They would still have lost but at least there would have been no issue. Also their backup academy players could have had an opportunity to play in league one. Bolton wanted to pick their best players or not play at all, and they have got away with it.

If there was ever an example of a panel being afraid of a club and making decisions we have seen it now. An 18 month suspension for the points deduction to take effect makes no sense at all. That will benefit whatever clubs Bolton are playing in 18 months time. They should be punished now, in this season, for what they have done in this season. Clearly, the EFL (who passed the buck to another panel to avoid criticism of themselves but it is still their responsibility) didn’t want to make things worse for Bolton now and be guilty of driving them down into league two. But why should opposition clubs in two seasons from now benefit?

Doncaster are the only team to lose out here. Other clubs in our league are laughing at taking 3 points and getting 5 goals from Bolton. Even Bolton are laughing at getting away so easy as they have no immediate significant punishment. Maybe we should give Bolton the hostile reaction they deserve when they come, or Doncaster should mount an immediate legal challenge as we have been disadvantaged where no other club has, which means the season is not a level playing field (a pun I know). Those 3 points and 5 goal difference could be critical for us at the end of the season and mean we miss out on the playoffs. Why should we now have to fit in another game when we were ready to go last time?

I will sum up my appraisal of the outcome in one word, “cowardice”.

The EFL have allowed Bolton to disrespect them (and Doncaster) and they have let them get away with it rather than dish out an appropriate punishment.

Have I got this straight? The ELF dithers for nearly 3 months before appointing an independent commission to rule on the punishment to be awarded to Bolton for failure to fulfil two separate fixtures, and what action should be taken regarding the cancelled Rovers match.
The commission issues its judgement, which the EFL now considers lenient, so intends to appeal.

Question. The commission having been appointed by the EFL obviously has their authority. Who can the EFL appeal to? Surely they can't appeal to themselves. It doesn't make any sense to me.
