Toon keeper had a great game.

Henderson should’ve played to the whistle.

No sympathy for the second goal. Both Newcastle players clearly onside and the Blades players just stood still because the linesman had flagged. Shelvey carried on and just slotted it home while Henderson made no attempt to stop him from scoring. VAR works both ways so Shelvey did well to carry on and score. VAR is definitely an animal that both sets of fans view as ok, just depends if you're on the losing side.

The linesmen have been told not to flag in that situation though so it was still confusing.

Of course assistant refs should flag otherwise what’s the point of them being there, Sorry but you play to the whistle simple as. The Ref did not blow so you carry on. ALL players know that rule, apparently the Blades players don’t.

The FIFA directive is not to flag for tight offside decisions, otherwise VAR will not work.

GF; thanks for the pointers had no idea about them. That makes it even worse and play would continue and IF a goal is scored, only then will VAR step in. What a waste of a players energy chasing a cause to only to be ruled out. VAR is a mess and causes so much confusion.

I suppose running it the way you describe it, allows the attacking team the benefit of the doubt. Get now why the ref didn’t blow but, even the assistants don’t look like they even understand the rules.
