You cannot keep on allowing the Tories to diminish our ***** services and expect the same response to emergencies. Unless you live in the South East.
The South East is no better off at all. My son has been a Paramedic in London for 25 years and it is the worst he has ever known it because their management is crap and they were losing 38 paramedics every month because they were being treated so badly. In addition, the number of people ringing for an ambulance with trivial things has just gone through the roof and all they do is clog up the A&E Departments and take ambulances off the road because they are unable to offload patients.
Politicians make all sorts of issues about the NHS, however, it is a matter of underfunding, poor management and wimps using the NHS when there is just no need ---the only reason it is abused is because it is free ---perhaps we all should pay for treatment.

When the National Lottery was started 25 years ago the proceeds should have been going to the NHS and not to all the other stupid things which have been funded by Lottery funds, including Olympics etc.

There's another reason as well Sub, it's the elephant in the room, no politician of any party will mention it, they all ignore it, preferring to brush it under the carpet and hope no one will notice, but none of them can escape responsibility for it.

14 years ago in 2005 the population of the UK was 60.2 million, it's now 67.5 million. There are now 7.3 million more people wanting to use the NHS than there were 14 years ago, and it wasn't exactly a barrel laughs getting an appointment back then. Over the last 14 years the population has increased by an average of 521,000 a year. How many extra hospitals, doctors and nurses would it take to cope with that increase ? I have no idea, and it wasn't possible to plan for it anyway because we had free movement, no one could possibly anticipate or plan for the unknown.

The population of Burnley is 87,000, so each year for 14 years the NHS has had to cope with the addition of six new towns the size of Burnley, 84 towns the size of Burnley over that 14 year period. 84 extra Burnleys FFS, it's mind-boggling, the wonder is that the NHS copes as well as it does, that it copes at all given those figures, but you don't hear any politician pointing this out do you.

And while we're on the subject, I believe there's a housing crisis as well. Hmmm, I can't imagine why.

So very true sinkov ---but say it quietly in case you upset someone!

Actually it's currently running at 65.6 million, but is certainly increasing year by year.

That's a lot of extra people generating a lot of extra money for our Exchequer.

If Beveridge's original "quid pro quo" NHS paradigm is in place, surely with a competent Government who actually gave a flying phuck, we'd be able to keep up?

I suspect your figure of 65.6 million is out of date BT.

    This is from the ONS,

"In 2018, the UK population reached 66.4 million people and migration remained the main driver to population growth."

And this from Worldometers.info is the most up to date figure I can find, and the one I used.

"The current population of the United Kingdom is 67,687,693 as of Tuesday, December 10, 2019, based on Worldometers elaboration of the latest United Nations data."

So you think that we retired folk don't pay tax? JC is even going to take away part of the allowance that I claim because my missus just gets a basic pension.
I look at earnings these days and consider that I never earned more than £15,000 in any year and yet, because I looked after my affairs, I end up paying tax on my pensions! Believe me, BT, there are plenty of us keeping this show alive.

I have never minded paying tax, but look where it's got us? We need to return to "Cradle to grave socialism" where a safety net stops our veterans sleeping on the streets, the NHS is rendered safe and all of our sprogs have a future.

I don't care who you vote for but PLEASE DO NOT VOTE TORY.

You make it sound so easy BT , we have in this country bred a generation of lazy layabout scamming of the state idiots who now in turn are encouraging there children to do nothing and claim of the state ,
We also have an illegal immigrant problem where people are coming here and again sponging of the state Adding pressure to our brilliant NHS, and letting me you and all other honest tax payers foot the bill.

The problem in our country goes much deeper than just money from the government into Austerity and homelessness, the problem now is that to the Tories and Jezza these people are votes so we are trying to right these issues to retain votes.

Unfortunately to change a generation of lazy layabouts with 40 a day habit , 60 inch TVs and sky for nowt , along with free housing and bills is going to be a tough challenge.

And as I’ve said before there will never be enough money to do it without us contributing more and at the rate we’re increasing it will never be enough.

Here’s the thing under a Labour Conservative or Liberal government
