True. They are a feature at Christmas here in the US outside every large store/supermarket with collection 'kettles' and volunteers who ring a small hand bell and wish a Merry Christmas to everyone entering and exiting the shop. Every year there are one or two stories of anonymous donors who have dropped valuable coins into their 'kettles' (hopefully knowingly) like gold Kruger rand or rare collectors items.

I worked at pit with a mate who along with his wife were in the Salvation army band at Doncaster, he won a brand new car in a competition, due to Salvation army rules he had to give up the car, or he would have to leave the Salvation army.it was counted has gambling, he gave up the car & stayed in the Salvation army.

Seems just me with suspicions then.
Do they sell flights to football matches.
Just kidding but saw a programme a few years back which made me doubt some of their members.
You know have permission to join a pack.
    But not a fan.

He won the car in the 1970's crash, can't remember what car it was, he would have needed a time machine for Kia.

mum was a member/volunteer of the sally army, do some good work.
one that did raise an eyebrow last week was a charity wanting donations to give a homeless person a xmas dinner and give them a bed for the night. £28.87p... ive no idea how much it would cost for tea and digs but £28 looked a bit steep
