Pleased to see we’ve got another three promising young players on longer deals, namely Meekison, Cooney and Fraser.

In the press release the club state:

"All three players know this is a reward for their efforts so far. Ultimately, we want to see them play for the first team, get 50 to 100 games under their belts and then further their careers with a big-money move. To do so, they need to keep learning from the players and coaches around them each day, and within the individual progression plans we have for each of them."

Thoroughly approve of this model, although ultimately you’d like to get to the stage where players want to stay for longer because they’re winning trophies here.

In the meantime three big games and the January window to come. It’s a great time to be an Arab, although I’ll be happier still at 5-00pm if we get three points today :-)

United have always been a selling Club from selling some of the Scandinavians through to Andy Gray, Raymond Stewart, Richard Gough etc etc. I have no quibble with that. The issue is when you sell far too many, far too quickly. It ended up getting Hibs relegated 5 years ago and of course as we all well know led directly to our own relegation three years ago. So long as the management have a sensible, sustainable model that avoids past mistakes then we’ll be fine. But the priority should ALWAYS be the strength of the first team as that’s what the Snake forgot - no amount of money can compensate for weakening your starting XI to such an extent that you end up struggling on the pitch.




Or even get you relegated.

EXACTLY............. We all know players doing well at Tannadice are being watched, and if they get a good move good luck to them. Preferably after giving us at least two seasons (hopefully more)

BUT............. I can never forgive nor forget what happened that season and after selling those players to a team we were about to play in a final and more. Horrendous decision! And..... that was the beginning of our downward spiral.

The "ugly sisters" are interested in any player showing potential. Unfortunately, some clubs will sell (us included)

Under the new ownership though , hopefully the "bide yir time" kicks in and we can keep players longer than before.

Unfortunately, these potential moves are more in the hands of the players and their agents. Just hoping that our current situation where we have a genuine talent like Shankland who will go on to earn his move the correct way against and a youth player that thinks he's made it, getting frozen out of football.....shows our young players that they will have to prove themselves. Players doing well and moving on to further their career, although sad to see them leave, they go with our support.
Be an Andy Robertson...don't be a Scott Allan.
If the owners raid the conveyor belt early, they can only blame themselves when the conveyor belt is empty in the end!

We’re getting to the silly part of the season, are the ugly sisters actually interested or is it just our lazy journalists who think all their readers want to see is them being linked with any and every player who’s doing well at other clubs . Clubs have unpaid scouts watching games every week looking out for talent breaking through and keeping an eye.......Sun and Daily Rangers just add the headline.

Appere is an example for young players to think long term, he hasn’t played particularly well last couple of games but Neilson realises that he has to leave him in there, has to learn on his feet, get the games under his belt and the good shall come back and be more consistent. It’s working for club and player.

With the ugly mob, he’d 45 mins of average then get bombed back to the reserves or bench.

Players should pay attention to that and not make the mistakes of others who disappeared after a few 1st team games thinking they were billy big boots......and where’s their career now?

I think our management will be strong at January sale time and don’t expect to see anyone important shipped out.........papers can bluff away all they like.
