    Honestly cant remember DD. The place was a wee lane (Jopps) off John St. I do remember it was quite primitive in comparison to today's optical tech. Heating up the frames so the lens would fit cutting edge stuff ken.

    That’s still how it’s done

    The lens cutting machinery is vastly more accurate than it was, so today’s technician doesn’t know much about hand edging lenses but I reckon it’s a skill that’s still better to have.

    Not entirely.
    I spent the first couple of years fixing joints.

    Like yourself and Stewart’s my first job was lens edging, I started with Lizars in their Royal Exchange Square workshop in Glasgow, worked there for a few months then moved the few yards to the shop in Buchanan Street, repaired broken specs and made adjustments to new ones. Left after a year for an apprenticeship in scientific optics.
