Sad news. Although Mick Vinter probably wouldn't make many 'best ever' Notts teams, he was a bloody good player and the ideal partner to feed off big Les. I was curious as to his age, and a bit of googling shows he was only a couple of weeks older than me. He leaves many fond memories from better years for Notts, sympathies to his family.

Sad to hear. Our top scorer in the old 2nd tier three seasons running (joint with Bradd for the 1st of those three) and he was the first regular co-commentator alongside Colin Slater. Only saw him play against Notts, I remember him turning out for Newport and he stood out as playing with a big smile on his face, seemed to be really enjoying playing at the end of his career. Forever immortalized on video by scoring twice in the televised 5-1 demolition of Fulham.

    RIP Mick.

As well as his two in the 5-1 victory against Fulham at Craven Cottage, I remember his hat-trick at the Den in our 5-2 thrashing of Millwall, a couple of months later. I seem to think that it was when he left to join Wrexham that Gordon Mair became a regular in the Notts' team. One of many great players we had in that era. RIP Mick.
