    Remembering Patrick Cryne

The 21st of January marks the date that Barnsley Football Club lost one of its most influential figures. The former owner and Oakwell Hall of Famer is greatly missed by those who knew him and those who knew of him.

First introduced to Barnsley FC in the 1950’s by his Uncle Ernest, Patrick Cryne became, as he described, the club’s ‘buyer of last resort’ in 2003, as Barnsley Football Club faced the threat of going out of business.

Patrick turned the fortunes of his boyhood club around and during his tenure as owner the Reds were successful in two playoff finals, enjoyed three memorable trips to Wembley and produced many notable talents through the prestigious Barnsley FC Academy.

Ahead of Tuesday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Preston North End, the club invite supporters to commemorate Mr Patrick Cryne.

Prior to kick-off, in the Reds FanZone, supporters will be encouraged to share their fondest memories of Patrick and of his time in charge. In the second half of the game against North End, on the 66th minute, fans are invited to shine their mobile phone light into the night sky and remember Mr Cryne with a minutes applause.

Two years ago today, Mr Patrick Cryne passed away. His memory will always live on.

Once a Red. Always a Red.
