OT - Herbert Kilpin & the Lord of Milan

Nottingham chap born on Mansfield Road who founded AC Milan. It's his 150th Birthday today. HOORAY!

As some of you might know, I co-directed a documentary about his life. It's been shown in a few different countries now (Italy, China, USA, Croatia etc). It's also got a few Notts bits in there too like Mark Hateley (talking about his dad) and Les Bradd meeting a delegation from AC Milan when we took them to Meadow Lane.

Anyway, we've made the film FREE TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND ONLY in honour of the birthday. If any of you have a spare hour i'd be interested to know what you think of it...

thank you, an easy very enjoyable and interesting viewing, made my hairs stand on end and a shiver went through me when they announced him before the start of the Milan Juve game on the anniversary of his death.

A Nottingham lad goes on to found one of the greatest teams in the world......does it have to specifically mention Notts County for this to be relevant to you?..........maybe 11 minutes 20 secs will sooth your angst.

I´m with MadDog, very enjoyable film......thank you Mr Left Lion.

Herbert Kilpin-Pub/Restaurant off Bridlesmith Gate. Beer prices are a bit eye watering though.

It's probably rubbish but I was always told that the black stripe on their shirt was for us and the red one was for the mob over the river.

It's something some people believe for sure. And hard to prove or disprove as so much information was lost between Herbert's death in 1916 and his rediscovery in Milan in the 1990s.

Although personally I think it's simply because he played for a team in Nottingham associated with St Andrews Church called the Garibaldi Reds who played in the same red and black kit (which has also been proven). Although like Botafogo in Brazil wear B&W stripes because of Juventus (and thus because of us, with one degree of separation) it's likely that Nottingham team took the red and black to rep us and Forest.

On another stripes-related note, one thing we discovered while making this film was a photo of Herbert and Tom Savage (who took the stripes from us to Juve) together. You can see the photo in the film and I think we were the first people to prove Kilpin and Savage knew each other and played in the same football team together over in Italy.
