    Team selection

After that excellent performance yesterday, it will give Slav a bit of a headache for the game against Cardiff on Tuesday. Interesting to get people's views on what team they would select. For what it is worth, here is my starting XI

    Johnstone
    Furlong
    O'Shea
    Hegazi
    Townsend
    Edwards
    Barry
    Sawyers
    Krovinovic
    Austen
    Robson Kanu

Well there has been much debate about academy players and lack of loyalty.
Perhaps some could be swayed to stay if they really believe they can push on to the first team regardless of who they replace. Some have a good shout to start on Tuesday and perhaps that is what is needed. Allowing for injuries and suspensions...I see nothing too shabby with that starting 11.

    I would go:

Johnstone (although Bond did well and looked solid)
Furlong (tempted to go for O’Shea)
    Bartley
    Hegazi
    Townsend
    Livermore
    Sawyers
    Philips
    Krov
    Austin
    HRK

With Barry, O’Shea, Edwards, Brunty and Bond on the bench

Could not Barry play central defender? I am not happy at all with Bartley and Hegazi.

    I’d go:

    Johnstone
    Furlong
    Barry
    O’Shea
    Townsend
    Edwards
    Livermore
    Sawyers
    Robson-Kanu
    Krovinovic
    Austin

    Bond
    Bartley
    Brunt
    Phillips
    Harper
    Tulloch
    Willock

When back from injury/suspension I want Gibbs, Ajayi, Diangana and Pereira back in the starting 11. Just from a quality point of view I’d want Ferguson back too, but, he obviously has his head elsewhere.

I think it depends on the opposition. Our best technical midfielders are Pareira, sawyers and Krovinovic. None of them are good combatant midfielders so against physical teams we would need the likes of Livermore. Kanu makes a real nuisance and opens up spaces for other key players but for set pieces maybe Austin would be more valuable. Zohore is a waste of a place. I think Bilic will have a feel for what might work. Midweek training also shows him who’s performing well. The suggestions here I’m more than happy with. Who would have thought Barry and brunt together would have won us the cup tie? Bilic knew that it was a game for calm experienced heads. Worked.
