Motherwell and Hull agree Scott fee

Motherwell have accepted a bid from Hull City for James Scott. Reports, yet to be confirmed by the club, suggest that the initial fee is around £1 million and that add-ons could result in a final total of £1.5 million. - External Link

Whilst I accept this is probably decent money (but would like to see the details because trust is evaporating). I say that as a Well Society stalwart.

I strongly object to being a farm for the EFL and selling off our youth/talent before the club benefits from them on the park.

If we are short of money than tell us. That might make it more acceptable.

You see the accounts every year, you know the financial situation.

Scott has a lot of potential but he's by no means a guarantee to make it like a McFadden or a (pre-knee) Turnbull. It's easy to turn down bids for those guys because there will almost certainly be more and their trajectory will remain on the up. Scott is different because his current value is barely a couple of hundred grand... the rest is based on potential and the club will always play it safe with that kind of offer for a guy whose next destination could well be Kilmarnock on loan or a club in Iran with Traktor in their name.

The club's annual accounts will show overall figures, but Society members have no right to access details of commercial deals and nor should they.

I too don't like the English Premiership hoovering up young talent but fans from outwith England, including Scotland, who pour money into it, at the expense of their own leagues, must take a share of the blame here.

Does the unexpected windfall alter the thinking on the future of D Turnbull? Does he stay with us for next season, or are we now in a better negotiating position for £4M? Caveat being he's ok on his return obviously.

If we're truly confident Turnbull will return to the form of spring we now have the means to give him enough to sign a we deal... which is needed if he's to regain his value.
