Mine was a brand new MINI clubman in the 80s, what a dogs dinner that was. The first day I had it I was locked out of it due to a missing lock mechanism. It had no radio or rear window demister as they were costly extras and it had a choke!!!
Morris Marina SUK 437L.
A horrible blue colour with a mustard coloured pvc interior.
Black anti rust paint up to half way up the bodywork all the way around.
Cost me £695 in 1979 which I saved myself.
Quickly moved on to Ford Capri’s of which I had four in a row.
Mine was a Bond 3 wheeler with a 197cc motorbike engine bolted to the front wheel I had to lift the bonnet step inside and kick start it, needless to say the girlfriend wasn't impressed the first time I picked her up.
Mine was a dark blue Hilman Imp. Somehow I loved the kind of futuristic look - but my god that aluminium engine and the cylinder head gave so much unreliability. I remember having to put my foot down to make sure I got up the long bank after Jct 2 of the M5 - mind it was great coming back the other way.
Mine was Ford Popular back in the sixties. Bought it for £25 and after 2 years, sold it for £50. Not a bad bit of business! Always remember that in those days, you had to have a light on any car parked on the street at night so I nicked a roadside paraffin lamp from some nearby roadworks and hung it on the side of the car at night.
In 1987, an 11-year old Saab 96 L V 4 (half a V 8 😎, horrible light green colour. Gear stick by the steering wheel and many other peculiarities.
White Mk 1 Ford Escort bought in 1977. Pranged it the second time out.
Mine was a Grey 1300 MG Saloon. Cost £240.00. Leather interior and a walnut dashboard. Had to keep the choke out with a piece of matchstick till the engine got up to temperature. Ran it for three years. When I traded it in for a new Fiesta 950 it had a 50% Isopon bodywork.
Sad to see my Lambretta LI 125 go, but replaced by.... Austin A35 van. It had a crank handle which was regularly required when the ‘magneto’ (?) stuck and the only way to start is was a push or use the crank handle. (NB keeping your thumb out of the way of the occasional kick back) It had ‘sticky out’ indicators with the driver side one not returning in..had to lean out of window to push back.
Went up market to a ford anglia (£100) and then............
Triumph Herald convertible (Maroon)
Happy days.
