    I'm so glad I got to see him all through his best years. Some player BTW, I wonder what he would be worth in today's market.

    Even when he was playing, I couldn't understand that he continued to play without shinguards and with his socks round his ankles. Zero protection. I'm amazed he can still walk as the likes of big Tom Forsythe and Wullie Miller et al would hammer him every week.

    Credit to him though, he was a hardy lad, and he didn't get injured much. Short playing career though.

    One of my favourite United players though. Absolute class forward.

    At one point, he actually got guards moulded in the shape of his calves due to the constant tackles from behind.
    Didn't last long tho, used to see him lob them towards the dugoot pretty early in matches.

    I get the fear now thinking of players with socks rolled doon over their boots taking heavy tackles every match.

    Yes, as above. Pretty much spot on!

    He did take some clatterings though.
