They'll just finish building it and someone will invent Star Trek-style transporters.

Johnson also said wed get a free trade deal with the EU but thats history now.

Live with the disruption but probably never benefit from it

Nobody up here will benefit from it because the spur beyond Birmingham will never be built.

Today the cost of London to Birmingham spur doesn't matter. When work is due to start on the Yorkshire spur it will magically become too expensive.

As for houses on the Shimmer estate at Mexborough they are so shoddily built they will have fallen down before it becomes an issue.

...northerners not being looked after? Yet still northerners were daft enough to vote for em. It will be the same with Brexit the south will benefit more than the north...

No Roly, even before the election when HS2 was announced the thick northerners were campaigning against it. So even if money was spent here they were saying " don't want that"

Got a feeling that they'll go ahead with the leg to Manchester then improve the East West links to connect to it

Grant Shapps said on a TV interview this morning that a significant announcement is scheduled for Friday regarding improving the west to east rail network in the north of England.

This is what most people in the north seem to prefer anyway

Well it’s certainly needed but no matter how good it is the response will be negative from the Labour Party, the Lib Dem’s, the Greens and various environmental complainers with their cohorts of professional complainers.

Some will already painting up the protest placards.
