I would describe Ally Brown as a decent journeyman forward. His biggest problem was that there was nearly always someone better than him on the team be it David Cross, Cyrille Regis, Jeff Astle, etc. So he was really more of the back up. If you look at his stats, the 7 goals a season is misleading because he only played about half of the games (279 appearences in 12 years. 42 games a season is 504 games plus cup games) so if he had played all the games, he more likely would have been around 14 or 15 a season, which is a pretty decent. So I have always thought of him as a good, honest hard working second or third choice forward who will give you a pretty good return of goals but not earth shattering. I would have him in my squad any day.
