No, you’re missing the point, it isn’t about correcting poor decisions, VAR is unpopular because it’s a system that searches for things that are wrong, “toe nail” offside and all that stuff. It annoys fans and most fans don’t like it.
Let’s take Alan Shearer for example, 283 league goals. Had there been VAR in all his matches that 283 would have been significantly lower because VAR finds reasons to disallow goals, yes there may have been the odd goal that VAR would give him in review but that would be a lower number.
Look at all of the latest controversies, mainly goals disallowed, not decisions changed to give a goal. Often the disallowed goals are given when nobody has actually appealed against it, because there’s an automatic review system in place.
Incidentally, had we had VAR yesterday it wouldn’t have made that ref’s performance any better. It might though have cancelled out Crooks goal because Vassell made a slight contact with their defender as the ball bounced up.
Similarly Ladapo’s goal could have been cancelled out because technically Wood was offside.
