James, like i said, i didnt see the whole game, and probably wont ever, but i did see some of the second half where Powers looked like he was out on his feet because of the conditions. He was still passing the ball quite quickly and mostly forward, and this is where i cannot see where all this slow down pish comes from.

I also dont get the comment from offshore about the fans reaction as when i have watched Powers, he is constantly on the move, offers for a pass, looks around before accepting the pass and usually first times the ball to the next player. If nobody forward shows during the look around, then is it Powers that is slowing things down, or the supposedly accepting player?

Around the subbies, i saw Powers deep with Butcher too far forward and Pawlett being Pawlett. The subbies happen and Butcher goes into his position who then has 2 players who are suited to their positions who were all of a sudden showing for forward balls!

I am not his fanboy or any pish like that, but he seems to be up as a hate figure for some fans, something that puts him on a level with the Coll Donaldsons of our history, something Powers certainly does not deserve!

Powers will have a big part to play in such matches. However, games like last night and recently v Alloa, Morton and Arbroath, slowing it down, playing sidey-sidey football with little penetration plays right into the hands of teams designed to sit in and keep disciplined banks of four and five. It wasn’t the only factor but Powers style played a heavy role in the failure to win the matches prior to last night and his substitution last night played a significant part in getting the win.
    great post

I suppose with Butcher its the bookings he gets slated for rather than his ability.Connolly sums up the famous Bill Shankly quote that football is more important than life or death.

defo not a hate figure, far from it chick.

he is on the move and he does offer a pass but he choses sideways and backwards rather than a forward pass or even trying to drive forward himself.

There are plenty other arabs with the same opinion of him so there must be something in what we're seeing and posting.

Never said I hated him. Not sure anyone else has either. What we are saying is that his style of play has not been what we have needed in certain games recently.

That was a general comment and not aimed at yourself.

I would argue he is the type of player that we have been crying out for, but if his only out ball is back and sides, then that aint his fault.
