    Louis Appere

What a player this guy is. I'm sure we all thought the exact same when he went on loan to Junior football last season: "surely he isnt going to make the grade".

    How wrong we were!

He has started around 22 games this season. 6 goals and 5 assists which again, is a fantastic return for someone in their first season. Had he even played a minute of league football before this season?

Add to that his all round play, he runs at defenders, he can operate in tight areas, he can play a killer pass, he can shoot from distance, he can play through the middle and bully defenders and he can also play out wide and offer his full back plenty of support.

Who was the last youngster to come into the team from the academy and look like such a complete player?? Russell? Gauld? Is he at that level? I think he could be.

plus the fact he's rarely played as a striker!

I agree this is his best position. But he does so well out wide too that he is always going to play if fit.

McMullan, Appere, Clark and Shankland were outstanding when they played as our 'front 4'

I get the feeling that we have a plethora of young players coming thro like we've not had for years, decades even.
No names but I've heard of 7 or 8 names who are getting the 'watch this one' notice.
I wonder if we're not alone tho, could it be that there are great kids ready to get breaking thro at senior clubs in Scotland?
Why that should be now, I don't know. Looking around at our fractured society, is this positivism bucking the trend?

I still feel he needs to have a wee bit more belief in him to take players on more often. He's definitely got the ability, strength and pace to burn up most full-backs but he often seems a wee bit hesitant to really go at them.
You're right, though, he has been a very pleasant surprise this season. And a big part of why we've been so successful, and Shankland has benefitted enormously from his inclusion.

    Declan Glass
    Louis Appere
    Logan Chalmers
    Jake Davidson
    Ross Graham
    Nathan Cooney
    Lewis Neilson
    Chris Mochrie
    Archie Meekison

I've watched all of the above players in the flesh at least 3 times (multiple times for other of course) and I feel very confident that most, if not all of these players have the ABILITY to make it at a club like United in the Premiership. The biggest question (as is the same with all youth players) is do they have the drive, the attitude, the mentality, whatever you want to call it, to really push themselves into the first team.

One of the things I like about LA is when I hear him interviewed he sounds mature beyond his years. He's done great, really great. Not the finished article by any means and I'm sure he himself knows that, but if he keeps improving we have a big player on our hands. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on against Premiership defences but I've got no fears on that.
As others have said, he's a wee bit wasted played too wide, much better up beside the main striker. Well done young Louis.
