Would you have the confidence that wholesale changes would be advantageous to us? Do you think we would nail it in the transfer market (when does that ever happen) so much so that we can afford to either get rid of half our team or have them backup players whilst signing almost another team which would cost us a fortune.

Even if they are better players than we have, would you expect them to gel instantly play good football and get results, if not would you be willing to wait a few months for that to happen and not get on the managers back and want him sacked if we are bottom early doors?

For me it's a much bigger gamble to make wholesale changes in 1 window than it is to add 2-3 quality players. IMHO i would concentrate on key signings in the summer.

As much as I blame RN for our current form, what some of our fans want is very dangerous gamble with not only our squad but our finances as well

edit to add: by 2-3... i mean proper starters, not just 2-3 to the squad as a whole which i would agree needs more depth
    Very good post. 100% agree

The main concern for me is, can this manager make the correct 2 or 3 signings?? When does a manager ever have a 100% succes rate in the transfer market?? I think Neilson needs to make 5 or 6 signings JUST to get the 2 or 3 quality players that we need because by ****, he's signed some garbage in the past.

No managers ever have a great success rate, and that is my point. Wholesale changes with our finances would need to be pretty much perfect. Look at some of the absolute garbage Alex Ferguson signed over they years with the finances and scouting at his disposal and hes not the only one, on the lower end of the market look at our attempts to replace GMS/Armstrong even after we got some cash, looks at Dundees attempts to replace Stewart, Hemmings etc.... Even if we get 3m+ for Shankland i would be shocked if we brung in a lot of quality without some utter grabage that doesn't work with it.

This summer was in my opinion a successful window, why...? because we went and added 2 players in Shankland and Smith to our 2 weakest positions in the starting 11. If we go in to this window with the same mindset of focusing on getting the right players to our weakest 2-3 positions again we will be better for it, will be be great? Probably not, but at least imho we should be stable enough to kick on again.

I have far more concerns about the manager, than i do about our best 11's ability to compete with the likes of Hamilton, St Mirren etc

I'd say our success this season is more to do with signing the bulk of the team in January the season before. Players were in & settled. Of course Shankland and Smith were added in the summer, and Shankland has been the real difference, but having our squad more or less assembled 6 months prior to the season started helped us massively. We haven't been able to do that this year and unfortunately I don't think this squad is anywhere near good enough for next season. The summer is going to be massive.

This lot of clowns haven't 'gelled' yet and they've been together for a year! As far as the finances go this is the time for Ogren to put his money where his mouth is and show ambition. Also financially it makes no sense for us to be relegated at the end of next season and believe me if there aren't substantial changes to the squad that is exactly what will happen. Apart from Shankland, McMullan, Appere and Butcher I wouldn't have any of the rest of them near the team next season.

I wouldn't be fussed to see anyone other than Shankland & Appere leave from the first team squad if I'm being honest. Would possibly add Butcher to that list also.
