They had the record amount of deaths yesterday, so yes it's heading that way. You seem to only be concentrating on current figures but it's the outlook for them which looks grim.

Total world cases are 1,400,000, USA has 402,000; over a third of the world total. Do you really think because the USA's testing of more people than Italy, Spain, etc puts them in a better position to control spread of the virus? Any sort of statewide help for those tested positive is immediately pounced on and denounced as socialism, and therefore unacceptable. This is why no amount of testing will do any good at all
apart from informing them of how many will die. Of that 402,000 13,000 are now dead as of yesterday, and with no cohesive plan between states or even cities, that number will rise dramatically very soon.

Their McDonald's restaurants are still open and we all know how busy they will be.

To be honest, I take little notice of what the USA, usually Trump are saying. He only says what suits him - at one time it was a hoax and fake news, then he was the one always saying it would be a pandemic! This week he was bragging (imo) about the number of ventilators they would have and how they would be providing them for desperate nations including the UK.

I am of course concerned for those who are ill and dying.

When assessing the US’s response to the Corona virus, it’s useful to remember that the President claimed that the virus was ‘a hoax’, the US ‘was in great shape’, it was ‘very much under control’ in February, and the US would have ‘close to zero cases’. Now of course he’s saying 100,000 deaths will mean his administration has ‘done a very good job’.

You won’t hear this from his apologists. Like some politicians over here, charges of criminal negligence should be brought when all this is over.

    It's generators, loads of them:

It wasn't Trump who downplayed it when he "had a hunch" it was nothing, it was the World Health Organisation's fault for not calling it sooner!

The problem is that half of America (and seriouspie) will actually believe him!

America is weeks behind Spain, Italy and even the UK in terms of progress of the disease so it really isn't possible to compare death rates at this stage. Maybe NYC is nearing its peak - hopefully - in terms of new infections, (not deaths), but the rest of the country is way behind. Lockdown takes weeks to have an effect on reducing deaths, you just have to look at us. And of course, the lockdown isn't quite what we think of. Have just seen the huge queues of people waiting to claim unemployment benefit - absolutely no social distancing at all. Trump and co can't even manage it at their daily task force 'show'.

Sadly I stand by the comments I made in March earlier in the thread, this is going to be truly terrible for America.
