However, i do think it'll see an upswing in people buying British, or from whatever country a person comes from.
    100% agree.

People need to make a conscious choice to buy British. Even if it costs a bit more because its hard for British manufacturers to compete with these places.

Maybe if we do some good will come out if this after all.

What we choose to eat is mainly a cultural thing. We have loads of wet markets in the UK, fish, meat etc. the difference is most of ours are highly regulated. We didn`t regulate foot and mouth very well, or mad cow (Kreutzfelds Syndrome), which affected a lot more people that we`ll ever be told. Similar situation with HIV transmission in NHS blood products where the government was actually infecting people and then engaged in a massive cover up..to this day. Hopefully the benefits of home produced goods and short supply chains will be fully understood and British producers will benefit in the long term. On the question of virus`, the so called `Spanish Flu` eventually mutated into a non lethal strain, as do most virus` so that they can survive. The other longer term benefit I hope is that we will feel some benefits from the reduction in pollution currently occurring and there will be a slowdown in the headlong rush to ever increasing mass consumption and the overuse of natural resources. Keep safe everyone

a quote from Hatlton Farms Congleton -

"Really sad and disappointed to hear that Sainsburys and Asda have ordered containers full of Polish Beef...

Why do they claim they couldn’t source British beef, when there is ample supply in the country?

Why aren’t they supporting British farmers who provide some of the best welfare standards in the world?

Why transport it all that way.... when they have beef that’s born and reared in the same county never mind country?

    Very sad times... 😔 "

But does it cost more in the long run. It provides more work for local earners to spend their money locally.

Remember the "I'm backing Britain" campaign of early 1968, those who were old enough.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_Backing_Britain

This started well and the figures showed what could be done because of enthusiasm. A pity it petered out but if kept going would have had a resounding effect.

Also regarding Ron's post 63 about producing British.

Look at Morrison's, started off as an egg and butter stall in Yorkshire in the late 1800's and developed into a farming dynasty in this country, where everything possible is locally resourced before they buy abroard.
