Clubs laying off non playing staff

Some Premier League clubs including spurs are getting stick after laying off non playing staff and claiming the 80% from the government to pay them whilst paying the star players full pay.
Spurs have a player wage of over 100 million per year Inc players like kane and ndombele on over 10 million per season
Plus players like son, Alli and lloris on 17 million between them.
Surely these well payed players could take a 40% dip for 3/6 month in wages to pay the low paid staff. I'm sure kane could live on 8 million a year

if I was a Prem player I’d certainly give up a big chunk of wages but then again it might depend on what mansion I’m in and need to keep it running.

They're on millions and office and ground staff are often on minimum wage, a very unequal business.

Daniel Levy gave himself a £3million bonus once the new ground was finished.

Some of Rotherham,s players probably earn more in a month than some of the admin staff do in a year.
Yet it is these lower paid people who have been temporarily laid off and we the taxpayer are expected to pay.

I haven't heard our players offering to help out their colleagues for a short period. They might have done but kept it quiet.
It's all relative in terms of how much they earn compared to Spurs but a decent div one player can be very well paid compared to most jobs

AVG weekly wage is £485. Living wage is about half this. if a player earns at least 4x this amount say 2k. Shirley they would give a % up to help out fellow employees..
I've no doubt plenty of these players give generously to charity's which shows they don't need this obscene amount per week.
Rufc must employee around 100 non playing/management staff. I'm sure if the above staff gave up a 1/4 of the wage per week it would cover most of the 100 mentioned.
Players won't be players without these people.

It’s sick that PL players are continuing to receive full pay at the expense of lower paid workers, whether this is contractual or not it’s still sick.

No respect for any of them never have

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said "people need to wake up to the enormity" of the coronavirus pandemic as the club announced 550 non-playing staff will take a 20% pay cut.

Levy, who earned £7m last year - £4m in wages plus £3m for the completion of Tottenham's stadium move - is among the non-playing directors and employees at the club who will take a cut in salary, initially for April and May.

The club will also use the government's furlough scheme in an attempt to "protect jobs".

Am I right I thinking that a 20% pay cut and using the furlough means the club won’t be paying any at all then?

One of the dragons has just been on TV preaching to us how she thinks we can get through this.
She then glibly states she's furloughed her staff. A free ride from the govt to protect her wealth.

I think the govt needs a rethink on this and retrospectively introduce some means testing on companies and individual owners who aren't acting out of need.

After all it isn't the govt who are actually funding this, it's us the taxpayer the majority of which won't be able to afford to underwrite these successful businesses
