    That won’t change.
Very worrying if this is true. SNP has moved from Tartan Tories to a more left wing ideology. They might realise that they can still be an effective political party without independence as a raison d'etre.Tony Blair made Labour electable by dropping clause 4. Wonder what would happen if SNP dropped independence?

Oil reserves are dwindling, fishing rights might be valuable, but I can't see very much more apart from possibly renting the nuclear sub base at Faslane. Be funny to see how the Greens would react to that.
Patrick Harvie leader of the Greens will vote with any party that is in power as it makes him feel important.

I think all local government Arms Length External Organisations have been facing the same problem. They get help through their charitable status but they have been hammered by the independent status which puts them outside direct funds from government. I agree it seems wrong that a local authority facility is not available but they really are between a rock and a hard place. It isn't at all unique to Islay and I don't think your local operator is really deserving of your criticism. You just have to look at all the problems being faced by businesses like gyms and bars to realise that the level of activity that is permitted by the social distancing laws make it possible to trade at pre covid level and as a result they are all potentially loss making.

They are not milking it IMO. They are taking the only course of action that gives them a possibility of continuing to operate. The hope was that the virus could be defeated and this would happen by the end of October. Given the spectacular announcements coming from China and S.Korea that they had control of the virus in April this must have seemed a reasonable bet. I think even Nicola and Jason realise that this isn't going to happen. The vaccine is still some way off and the test and trace system is finding people with the virus. What they need is a realistic change of approach. They haven't got one and the more testing they do the more the numbers of suspected cases goes up. We have lost sight of the number of deaths, don't seem to have any understanding of what the death rate is for these latest cases. If the vulnerable people are looking after themselves there might be cause for optimism if those who are contracting the virus are surviving without hospital treatment.
I am sorry but I do not agree with you.
If there had been no furlough scheme the swimming pool in Bowmore Islay which incidentally has charitable status would have been clamouring to reopen.
Two hotels on Islay have been closed since the start of the lockdown and are still closed.
It will be interesting to see what happens after 31st October 2020 when the furlough scheme ends as there are few visitors on Islay from November until Easter weekend apart from a short flurry at Hogmanay/New Year’s Day.

    Hope someone audits them.
Next year we should be getting a reduction in our council tax.
One thing is obvious. Local councils are hopelessly overmanned and they should be making hundreds of their staff redundant as they have managed to carry on with many of their staff furloughed.
In fact o lot businesses may have realised that they can easily cope with a reduced number of staff in the future and they can blame the ending of the furlough scheme for making staff redundant.

Nicola has obviously decided to ignore the GERS results for the year ending 31st March 2020 despite ‘her’ country having an increased budget deficit of 8.6%. She is obviously determined to have a second ‘once in a generation’ independence referendum even if it means that an independent Scotland would be bankrupt on Day 1.

    Yes, they intend to.

It may well get watered down but it will be the worst legislation foisted on a western "democracy" in decades.

The SNP started with a cause, became a business and has ended up a left wing marxist racket.

The SNP also have an MSP and supporters who never apologise when they make a mistake because they always think that they are right and no one else is entitled to an opinion.
The word ‘sorry’ is not part of their vocabulary.

Left wing is now called progressive in SNP speak.
