At 16 years old i was dead sensible Thatcher had just become Prime Minister and i decided the best course of action was to join the army.It was a brilliant decision job wise but the massive problem for me was the rise and rise of Dundee United.Even though i made loads and loads of games in europe i missed out on domestic dominance.

You were granted 6 weeks leave when you were abroad but it cost me a fortune as i took my leave piecemeal to attend as many games in Scotland or in europe as possible. My comrades would go on a block leave for 4 weeks in the summer and perhaps 2 weeks in the winter.I would remain in camp on rear echolon duties so i could follow United in every round they played in the UEFA or European Cup's.
