Thread: Season finale with Ross County

  1. #11
    Assuming...
    - we don't manage to keep Kelly/Cole and don't want to keep most of the rest
    - we start 4-3-1-2 as GA seemed to settle on before Watt got injured
    - there are no wonderkids coming

    we look roughly like:

    1 ???

    SOD, ????, Lamie, McGinley/Carroll

    ???? Crawford/O'Hara, ????

    Watt

    ??? ???

    Bench:
McGinley/Carroll, Crawford/O'Hara, Mugabi, Johnston, Lawless, Maguire.

Who knows the fitness of Carson, Donnelly or Grimshaw in a few months time.

There's no point in panicking until August though. We've said for months we need a complete overhaul and we know from experience they can go very well or very badly...make good decisions, spend our money wisely and there's no reason what we have already can't help the newcomers reach the top six. Bad decisions, spend poorly and what we have will not look out of place getting relegated to the championship. Massive summer ahead.

We are all crying out fora creative midfielder, if Dundee don’t come up could Charlie Adam help us for a season or two. There is no doubting his passing ability and he has the eye for the telling pass. Yes is fitness is in question to last 90 minutes week on week, but with the likes of Watt doing the running up front I am sure Adams would contribute with a good few assists for him

Just listening to Graham Alexander's post match interview, he is bemoaning the lack of character in the squad, and thats exactly right. You can have all the talent in the world but if you don't show drive and commitment you'll go nowhere. I just hope that in our summer recruitment we look for players with character.

Are we? On the face of it yes but at our level creative midfielders usually don't work/tackle/head much so unless you have someone producing Law/Polworth-last-season numbers of goals, I'm not convinced it's worth it. If we forget the wide 4-3-3 which proved so bad this season and instead play 4-3-1-2 or a 4-4-2 diamond, whatever you want to call it, we don't really need a creative midfielder if Watt is playing that role behind a front pair.

Even with Watt injured and Hastie/Lawless being a waste of space on a single wing, we've been scoring goals well enough with Cole-Long up top and three guys who are honest workers in the middle.

If we discover a new Law then sure, let's go for it, but from how GA has been talking unless we're very confident in that sort of player I just don't see us risking it...
