Play offs is not a cup competition in my book, it's an extension of the league, otherwise we'd be looking at whoever was the youngest player against Harrogate last year.
So yes, Tommy Gallagher is the youngest Notts cup finalist alive today, born 1974, four months after Michael Simpson.
He's not the youngest man to have appeared in the 2nd tier however.
Not Slawson. He made 25 apps in the 2nd tier but six players at that level were born after him.
You can say Slawson is the most recently born top flight scorer for Notts. He scored the goal in the 1-1 at Southampton when Razor Ruddock got sent off for head butting Craig Short. He scored three further goals in the 2nd tier.
Was it.... James Hunt?
so it looks like Michael Johnson in the top flight.
and I cannot work out an age for Tommy Gallagher so it may well be Michael Johnson for all 3?
ah just saw the post above about Gallagher.
A random guess for the youngest to play in the 2nd tier: Steve Slawson.
1. the top flight - Michael Johnson (born 1973)
2. the 2nd tier - ??????
3. a cup final - Tommy Gallagher (born 1974)
Five players born after Michael Johnson played in the 2nd tier for Notts, including Tommy Gallager but he isn't the youngest.
Slawson is older than Michael Johnson, it's not him.
