Eddie was brought in to improve on Laws and get us into the play-offs at the very least. In the event not much changed, we picked up another 32 pnts from the 21 games Eddie was in charge and we finished 8th, more or less where we were when Laws was sacked. In his next season, and only full season, Eddie took us backwards and we finished 13th. In October he was gone, we had just 3 wins and 11 pnts from 10 games, relegation form.

You say he did us no harm mon ami, OK if you say so, but he was certainly doing us no good.
He signed us Mee, Trippier, Ings, Austin and Stanislas for shirt buttons sinkov. The profit we made from those sell-ons gave us the springboard we needed to launch lift off under Dyche.

Mee must be one of Burnley's best ever value for money signings too!

From all accounts he also had a big hand in the downward spiral of the youth system and this is only just starting to recover from that time ----it is now 9 years since Eddie left!

He did institute some big changes Sub, he scrapped the reserve team and stopped the youth team playing their games on Turf Moor. As someone who enjoyed watching both on Turf Moor, it didn't go down well with me, for one.

Give over BT, stop trying to put us away, The profit from those sell-ons was negligible, Mee is still with us, we lost a £20 million player in Tripps for £3.5 million, when negotiating his contract his potential value was way under-estimated with the sell-on clause, was Eddie responsible for that, he certainly didn't insist it was much higher that's for sure.

Ings left on a free, we had to go to a tribunal for compo and got £8 million for another £20 million player. Austin left for for £4 million, a £3 million profit and Stanilas cost us over £1 million and left on a free.

Those five players cost us little, just over £3 million and we've raked in around £15 million from the four that have left. £12 million profit, FFS BT, we lost that much on Jeff Hendrick alone.

There seems to have been one of those 'urban myths' developed about Eddie's talent for signing players, certainly taking Mee and Tripps on loan was a good move, but a Championship team taking two City youth cup winners on loan was a bit of a no-brainer really. Ings, Austin, Vokes and Shackell were good signings, but what was he doing signing Keith 'Treacle' Treacy, a few questions asked around Blackburn and Preston would have warned him off signing that waster, even Sean gave up on him in the end.

Stanislas and Bartley never really established themselves, Stan blew hot and cold, neither were really missed when they left, Brian Stock is long since forgotten, and as for Zavon Hines, George Porter, Danny Lafferty and Luke O'Neill, probably the less said the better.

A mixed bag really, like most managers.

"Give over BT, stop trying to put us away" , Lol!

It's worth recalling the Vokes/Ings combination got us promoted, but the reasoning behind dismantling the youth programme was baffling to me.

It's rumoured that Eddie was constantly viewing on here and he took notice of someone's constant derogatory comments about the "Gawthorpe Black Hole".

Eddie must have agreed with a certain poster from here, that chucking good money down the drain on sustaining Gawthorpe was not in the club's best interests.
