Bennett thanks Erdogan for role in release of jailed Israelis
PM expresses his appreciation for Turkey's handling of the crisis to ensure couple's release and commended open channels of communication; officials say positive outcome could bring about warming of ties.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Thursday spoke on the phone with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and thanked him for his role in bringing about the release of an Israeli couple detained in Istanbul on suspicion of spying.

This was the first time the two leaders spoke and the first conversation between an Israeli prime minister and the Turkish president in eight years.

Erdogan must be calculating that relations with the EU are at such a low ebb that it will do no harm to be besties with Israel again.............for now.

Yes, sinkov it seems that President Erdogan is casting the bait, there are good books and bad books, and so the President throws his bait. But we have no option really just the sound of 'peace and reconciliation', we also want to be in those good books.

The phone call came a few hours after an Israeli couple held in Turkey for a week on suspicion of espionage were released.

Erdogan told Israel's President Herzog during the phone call that the continuation of contact and dialogue between Turkey and Israel was in their "mutual interest", according to the Turkish presidency.
Erdogan also said Turkish-Israeli relations were important for security and stability in the Middle East. (security and stability??)

The Prime Minister’s Office said Bennett thanked Erdogan for his personal involvement in allowing the Oaknins to return home, saying it was a humanitarian matter, and they all lived happily after ....until? ;-)
