Thread: Cornwall advice

  1. #11
All of the above BS, avoid Mevagissey, Looe on the North Cornwall side looks superb lit up at night.

If you're into food then Lewinnick restaurant at Newquay is excellent and I echo Mick's sentiments on Watergate bay, the waves are hypnotic when the wind is up.

    I’ll enjoy seeing them BS.

Make sure you make a visit there during the summer on a glorious day to see it in all its glory.

    I should’ve warned you about Newquay! 😩

The place has really gone downhill in the last 25 years unfortunately.

If you get back over that way this week pop down to Mawgan Porth and try the Merrymoor Pub or the restaurant next door called “Catch”.

If you daughter is up to it ( and you! ) then try the go cart track at nearby St Eval which is great fun.

Last year at nearly 59 I was still the fastest on track out of our family members and only got narrowly beat by a lad who owned his own cart.....great fun.

Padstow is nice if your daughter can manage the hill back up to the car park.

My late dad had a heart condition and on his last visit their in 2002 he couldn’t make it back up the hill.

I’d suggest dropping her in the town and then you driving up to the car park, it’s not worth her struggling.

From where you’re staying you might want to try Perranporth as well.

    Glad you enjoyed your day.

We passed catch and the Merrymoor, I did tell them you recommended it, Catch looked really nice
But where we went in Padstow Harbour was awesome, seriously great food and unbelievably friendly staff
Weren’t many people in when we finished and we ended up having a real chin wag with the GM and the head waiter they were so nice

My nephew used to cart in the national league as a consequence I’ve done that a fair bit always fun

We parked at the harbour and just walked round there for a bit

    Ahh.....that coastal path!

One of my favourite all time routes for a run, I used to run from Watergate Bay Hotel into Newquay and back at my peak, I still run it now but only run to Porth and back but that hill from Porth back up to the top of that coastal path is a grander killer so I end up walking it these days.

I know every pebble and rut on that path BS, I love it up there.

I first glimpsed Watergate Bay in the summer of 75 on our way home from Newquay as we headed to Tregurrian to meet relatives.

I loved it from the moment I saw it and started stating there in summer 78 when I was 16, I’ve stayed probably 50+ times at the hotel since.

    Just a magnificent spot.

Free parking in padstow turn into Sarah’s lane by Tesco and drive down the hill park for as long as you want on the roadside then get onto the camel along the riverside and walk 1/4 mile into the town along a nice flat tarmac pathway 😉

A pain in the a r s e in summer though mate, the narrow streets and the many cars etc.

Okay in winter though I’d suggest.
