    On Ilkley Moor baht 'at

Well not quite Ilkley Moor but near enough, I was planning to walk up Pen Y Ghent then this happened...

A few weeks ago I bought a beanie style cycle hat to wear under my helmet, solely to keep my ears warm when cycling. It worked a treat. Then I got the bright idea to wear it under my knitted peaked Guinness hat when out walking, the hat is warm but doesn't quite cover the ears. A couple of test walks and bingo, another great winter combination and it didn't look too bad either. Anyway, I went for a walk up the Cleveleys front this afternoon, it was blowing a hooley and the sea spray was coming right across the Prom onto the road. I was toasty with my new headgear and head down I headed up to Rossall then cut inland. When I reached the road to Fleetwood I turned south and had the sun in my eyes so I reached up to pull my hat's peak down a bit and boogger me it wasn't there, not just the peak but my favourite hat had disappeared. It must have blown off and I didn't notice because my head was down and the beanie hat stayed in place. I was gutted, I spent an hour retracing my steps but no sign of my beloved cap. It felt worse than Burnley getting beaten by Leeds and Newcastle combined. Guinness no longer make it and a search with Google didn't turn up anything similar. I'm still in a state of shock and so felt the need to share my sartorial bereavement with you.
ps. I'm going back out tomorrow morning in case it had blown under a parked car but I suspect some lucky bugger has found it and it will now be tumbling around in his washing machine to provide years of stylish comfort on the wrong head.

Have you checked with the cockle pickers in Morecambe Bay Chris, it could have floated in on the tide.

Anyway, what has any of the above got to do with walking up Pen Y Ghent ? I climbed Pen Y Ghent on my 50th birthday and decided to climb it every birthday until I no longer could, which I did, and now I can't.

Up Sharp Edge I expect Alf ? It's not that sharp, nothing like Striding Edge in a snowstorm.

I'm going up PYG when we have some decent weather. Today I dug my heavy duty walking boots out and decided to give them a stretch locally. As for Sharp Edge, done that but doubt i'll be doing it again, even Striding Edge sounds over optimistic now, perhaps the owd man.

    .

....had a few favourites fly away - Kriti... but managed to get "most" of them back, lost one on the water and was much like that moment when Castaway-Wilson floated away....

hope you find it....there was this sighting - nearby.

Not bad norder, and our local seagulls are pesky boogers, but my cap was more stylish, a bit like what gregory porter wears but with a guinness logo.

DOes it make you perform like Gregory Porter? If it does I would be tearing the place apart to find it!
