    large pinch of salt

Mainz 05 supporters trying to get the match with NUFC called off on moral and ethical grounds because of our owners.... I usually try to take a large pinch of salt when trying to digest morals coming from our Teutonic brethren in the fatherland

Can't we play someone decent instead?

Why not just release some balloons?

Good on Mainz for holding the line that the game gets played.

The sausage munchers need to worry about stopping financing Putin’s war with their gas purchases rather than this irrelevance.

Saudi is a very religious country but way behind the times in the minds of modern Europeans.

Britain only stopped hanging when I was at school in the 1950s and France was still beheading then.*** between men was illegal until the 1960s but now they get married.

People are quick to judge Saudi and claim they are hundreds of years behind us but that is not correct.

As for the war in South Yemen when I was in the military in the 1960s the British Army were fighting there in the Aden area.We had occupied it for a long time to refuel our ships on the way to our Eastern Empire.
Critics of Saudi should learn our VERY recent history.

Well put Sherwood. There’s an underlying assumption among many in the West that we are right and they are wrong. This (rightly?) gives the impression of arrogance to people from cultures as old (older?) than ours.
Over the years it’s become clear to me that no one culture is better than another. They are different - that is all.

…..just to give an example - the friendliness and hospitality of people in many Arab cultures ‘blows ours away’. We are positively hostile in comparison.
