I wouldn't pay £50 million for Ake but sadly in this day and age, it's probably a fair price - Dutch international with over 25 caps (and 3 gals), a 2 time Premier League winner, doesn't start regularly but still scores for them. This isn't even including the £10 million premium that clubs will put on players we look at.

I hate the cost and I don't rate him at that but sadly think that is where football is.

In all honesty, I'd have Burn over Ake. Not as comfortable pn the ball but a better defender, imo.

Yeah, but our defence is only one Burn away from being a shambles. We need someone else but not more than we need a striker that is better than and fitter than Callum. And while money is just a number to us, I'll believe this big spending when I see it.

Let's buy a striker and then we can either blow money on one or two glory players per window (I don't believe we are at that stage yet). Or rebuild most of the squad with cheaper players.

I honestly don't believe we can and will do both without either destabilising the team or triggering the fraud that is FFP.

Trini, I take it that you mean FFP stands for F***in Fraud Prem.

Nathan Ake isn't worth 50m but he's a decent player that would strengthen our team. We need to get out of the Mike Ashley mindset that even if we paid 50m for him it's too much and would effect spending elsewhere. These owners could spend that and then again on another player quite easily.
These are clever people and will be all over manipulating FFP like every other club does. I am just sitting back and relaxing in the knowledge we will go into next season much stronger than we left the last one.
