England Girls First Goal Last Night

Whilst, I don't feel you can compare women's football to men's ( bit like Tennis ), there's been some lack of disrespect to what the girls have achieved and for girls sport in general!

No skill some said! Well - that England first goal last night was 100% skill - pacey run and then the player knew what she wanted to do by lobbing the keeper! How many West Brom players could have scored that? How many men could have scored that to exact perfection? Not many if we are truthful.

Credit where it's due and respect! 90,000 at Wembley and record viewing on television speak volumes to those who really enjoyed it!

    Well Done the Girls!

Agree with this, my perception of the women’s game has changed.

I enjoyed watching it, too, and yes, that first goal was class.

Nicky Reid v Port Vale, play off final 92-93 was very similar minus the sports bra.

The tennis mention is exactly right. The only difference is physical strength. You don’t disregard womens tennis as being awful, and football (since it’s become Pro) Is no different. Athletes. The amazing thing is that it mirrors the mens game. Sweden, France, Spain, Germany had similar styles to the International mens game. I find it fascinating. If you think it’s not worth watching because it’s only women then don’t bother going to watch your grandson play because it’s only kids.

Good post Boingy! Girls will have tennis girl idols and will now have football girl idols - not men! After the success of this woman's tournament proven by record attendances - schools will now have to schedule girls football into PE.

Too many moans by those living in Noah's Arc days but no father/grandfather ( as you mention ) would not be supportive of a daughter/grand daughter if they were in a girls match. They would be cheering them on!

Credit where it's due! Can you imagine Grant or Phillips scoring that 1st England goal - even if given 5 chances?

It was an absolutely great finish and because of it I am starting to change my perception of the Women's game, which to date I thought wasn't very interesting and boring and always switched.

I also thought the gk were bad, but they are much better than what i had seen before (which were only 2 other games tbh), I would go as far as to say Earp was braver and better coming out to claim corners and crosses than Johnstone. This was after first impression of her at the start of the match, which was she was too short.
