An archaeological dig at Forge Island has given a fascinating insight into Rotherham’s rich industrial history.

Forge Island, which is currently being developed into a vibrant new leisure destination, has an interesting past and was once home to forges, mills, timber yards, a pub and even terraced houses. The findings included furnaces, tools, pottery, glass and the well-preserved remains of a water-wheel pit!

Did they find a Tesco Clubcard circa. 1985. If they did it's probably mine.

I don't think that's actually possible Cam. In 1985 the supermarket on Forge Island was still Hillards. Tesco didn't take over the chain until 1987.

They have found a clay pipe, probably now looking for a rocking chair, plus the owner of both,
or could have they found one of Harold Wilson's old pipes.

I was living in Northampton at the time and an avid Tesco shopper. On a brief visit to Rotherham I was buying some stuff in Hillards and distinctly remember my Tesco Clubcard falling out of my wallet. However, in those days I think they were made of papyrus so it probably hasn't survived the rigours of the past 37 years.
