I think the monarchy would have become far less popular, and put under pressure, had Andrew become king, obviously.
I expect the monarchy will never be as popular as it was under Queen Elizabeth II, certainly not under Charles or William, who are getting too involved in politics/climate change.
As for fawning, I think the affection and support for the late queen was all genuine.

I think William and Kate will be very popular.

BFP do you think you could tone it down a bit please? This is a thread which seems to have been posted in good faith by someone who wanted to show respect for the late Queen and you've turned it into something unpleasant about which I'm receiving complaints. Just asking you politely to turn it down a notch or two with some of your more inflammatory comments.
