    I don't know what Iain Banks' political beliefs were, but as a jock I suspect SNP may have been close to his heart? But if you believe that authors speak through character mouthpieces (which undoubtedly is partly true) then its good to know that Kurt Vonnegut believes in little green plumbers mates from Tralfamadore, as Billy Pilgrim spoke of then in Slaughterhouse Five. Again maybe not on your syllabus but I bet you've read it. if not, do.

    Anyway the good thing about this is that Andy now has an example where you have said you were wrong, or at least "stand corrected" !!

    Apparently Banks repeatedly voted Labour, but never ‘New Labour’ suggesting that ‘squeezing Blair would only lead to poisonous Thatcherite puss pouring out’. Might be a clue.
