Back in the late 70s I bought a portable (as long as you had been working out) B&W TV that was basically an oblong box with a handle on top, a 14" square Perspex screen and two dials on the front right hand side. Sold it at a car boot sale in the early 90s. About half an hour later the bloke brought it back and said "This is not a microwave" and wanted his fiver back. I gave it him but with the comment "What did you think the aerial was for?"

MY dad bought a portable unpacked it, burnt all packaging etc. After an hour of trying to get it to work, lost his rag, took it back to the shop, banged it on the counter and said it was s4ite and didn't work.
Did you tune it in asked the man.
Do what? Asked my old man.

Of course, some people still have old appliances.

But my information is correct too. It became EU law that devices sold couldn't use more than 1W in standby from 6 Jan 2010, and most products will have transitioned well in advance. The limit was halved again to 0.5W in 2013.

EC 1275/2008, an EU law good for consumers and the environment!

Since most of the cost of the washing machine is heating the water up you can save electric by turning the temperature to 30 degrees, will it get the clothes clean though? Says so on the powder packaging.

Might be OK with Bio. Non-Bio you're probably right.
