England failed to qualify so I followed Sweden and I think they finished third.

They had a striker called Ralf Edstrom who I took a liking to due to the way he played ( like an Andy Hunt type ) so I followed them.
We finished 5th - Ralf Edström was a really good centre forward - scored a fantastic volley during that WC.

Our medals in WCs are 2nd in 1958 and 3rd in 1994.

1970 for me. We had a colour telly from radio rentals.watched Englands games with my late dad and my older bruv.magic times.we had a great side then .i remember the kids at school having a go at me coz our Jeff missed a sitter. And the utter dissapointment after West Germany..who would of thought we would be in the wilderness for 12 years.

Just about remember the 1970 - and watching the 2 disappointing England games. Poor Jeff missing a glorious chance and pictured looking drunk getting off the plane! Booby Moore allegedly nicking jewellery and Banks getting food poisoning. Also remember helping a cousin to collect Esso World Cup coins.

I slightly remember 1958, some weeks after my 1st Albion match. Too young to really appreciate it, but Pele (aged 17), Didi, and Garrincha were my favourites playing the football (for Brazil) we'd never seen before.
They were almost as good as Howe, Robson and Kevan who were the backbone of the England team (although I was just disappointed Ronnie Allen wasn't picked!)

I don’t think there’s any “allegedly” about it now he’s dead Phil, I reckon he was bang to rights having watched documentaries about this.

1966 for me. Obviously winning it made it special but there are so many memories of it for me. Such as going on holiday to near Tenby during the competition and sitting in the back of the car with the house TV on the back seat and me having to hold on to it all the way there as there was no TV in the cottage. Rigging up a homemade aerial and having to sit on the landing of the cottage upstairs with me, my dad and my uncle taking it in turns to hold the wire in the air just to get a picture we could watch. Listening to the England Argentina game on the radio whilst on the beach and the crowd all shouting when we scored.

78, purely for Brazil. Watching them was the difference between colour and Black and white TV.
