Really hard to believe that someone with the monetary resources of a footballer isn't bright enough to set up a ghost account to bet with.
It's more likely he practices the belief of " Laws are for little people"

As far as punishment. I think any football player, coach or team employee, at any level, that bets on football should be banned for life. I realize that many teams are sponsored by betting firms but the integrity of the game has to be absolute. The game already struggles with VAR and very dodgy refs and decisions. Just the shadow of a player or coach betting on any game clouds the reputation of the game.
You can bet all you want once you are no longer being paid to be part of the game.
