Will the home match against Barrow actually be played on Saturday?
The weather forecast for Carlisle is that overnight into Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning the temperature will be below freezing point. In the 'Beech' winter the postponements for freezing occurred when almost ¾ of the pitch was playable but the remainder of the pitch, at the Warwick Road End, was in shadow and thus not benefitting from the daytime sun. No solution could be found.
However, last November CUOSC stepped in by spending £1,500 on a new type of fleece. It is of sufficient size to cover the 'at risk' area of the pitch. It is fundamentally better than any previous fleece in that it is of 3 layers. The fleece itself does not touch the ground. It is the middle layer. Previous fleeces were directly touching the ground, got wet and thus gradually were weakened and less effective. In this condition they were formidably difficult to lift.
This fleece is a new concept and the club is a 'test customer'. Last winter there was no need to use it, the weather was mild. So in the run up to the Barrow match it seems likely that it will be used for the first time.
Let's hear it for CUOSC, who I thought did not have a pot to piss in.

There is also a forecast of fog in Carlisle from midnight Friday until 12.00 noon on Saturday and then largely more fog from 6:00pm Saturday until 12:00 noon on Monday.
So it seems that we could be lucky and get the game played during the respite from fog between 12:00 noon on Saturday and 6:00pm. That is if the fleece keeps the Warwick Road End part of the pitch playable. The rest of the pitch should be OK. Though of course the fog could have the effect of preventing the sun from getting to the other ¾ of the pitch not covered by the fleece.

Game OFF - Twitter.
So in re-arranging this match we could get another run of Saturday / Tuesday / Saturday at some point. I've probably not mentioned it before, but Saturday / Tuesday / Saturday is very much against this team's best interests.
With both clubs having no fixture on Saturday 7th January common sense dictates that this is the optimum date to attempt to play this match.
Oh, there has been a Mansfield Town v Barrow match arranged for Saturday 7th January, thus far the only League Two match being played on that day. This makes it a certainty that we will at some time get another Saturday / Tuesday / Saturday run of matches, which is a pity.
Ours is off 2…
